This recipe makes one large, 10-inch pie or two 9-inch pies

Ingredients:

  • 12 medium apples, pared and sliced thinly
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 1/2 cups flour
  • 2/3 cup butter
  • 2 tsp cinnamon

Stir cinnamon into 1 cup of sugar, sprinkle over sliced apples and mix until apples are evenly coated. Arrange apples in unbaked 10-inch pastry shell.

Combine flour with 1 cup sugar and cut in butter with a pastry cutter until finely curmbed. Arrange the crumb mix over the apples. Optionally, add pastry trimmings on top of the crumb crust.

Bake in preheated oven at 425 F for 10 minutes and then reduce temperature to 350 F and bake for 55 minutes to 1 hour 10 minutes for the 10-inch pie or 35 to 45 minutes for 9-inch pies. (Toothpick inserted in center of the pie should not offer much resistance.)

Serve warm, at room temperature or reheat before serving.
